Vorgarten Domino is a travelling performance format. Month by month, an artistic performance takes place in a front garden — each time in a different single-family housing neighbourhood. One front garden sets the next one in motion.
On this website, the hosts and the artists are portrayed. Their stories, places and perspectives form a growing archive of encounters. The performance videos stand on their own. They capture each individual performance and show how art, everyday life and place come together for a brief moment.
The domino moves step by step through a changing cultural landscape. At the moment, we are thinking towards the East — the project may reach the region of Georgia over the course of the year. But a domino is never fully predictable: it can pause, change direction or take an unexpected turn.
At the same time, a map is being created that connects the individual locations. It does not only show places, but a movement — from front garden to front garden, from encounter to encounter.
Vorgarten Domino is part of an open research process. We collect experiences, images, conversations and knowledge about how art can act in private space and what it can trigger.
These insights flow back into the Festival of Vorgartens and into future editions.
The format is intentionally open. It lives from new contexts, hosts, neighbourhoods and ideas. Anyone interested in opening a front garden, realising a performance or continuing the domino in a new direction is warmly invited to get in touch with us.
